by Salal Awan

Striking Distance has released The Callisto Protocol update 1.08 on PC and consoles. They promise in the patch notes that it resolves some critical issues.

The update was available to download on PC first followed by PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. It was reported to be more than 10 GB thus suggesting that it was a substantial update itself. However, there were no detailed patch notes available for this update when it was released until later when the developer shared a statement confirming the changes.

On the Steam forums, the developers shared the following message regarding the update.

A new update is available for all platforms. Look for combat improvements, performance and stability fixes, localization optimizations, and general quality of life changes. We’re listening and grateful for your feedback. More to come.

However, many users noted that this update hadn’t solved the performance issues for them on PC. At least when running the game with ray tracing which looks quite beautiful. As we have mentioned in our review of the PS5 version, The Callisto Protocol is technically solid with stunning visuals. It is also a pretty good game if you want to play it on consoles, but the PC port did suffer from various issues at launch including stuttering.

The patch notes for The Callisto Protocol 1.08 update mention that some combat improvements have been made to the game. As noted on the subreddit for The Callisto Protocol, this includes improved animation when healing your character. Check out a comparison of this animation below.

So the new animation is faster thus it should provide a better experience since the protagonist used to slow down when healing, which is not the case anymore. In fact, the new animation is almost twice as fast which is good to see. On the other hand, this could be a negative thing for some people as this animation is a lot faster now. Perhaps it would be better to have it in the options menu as a toggle.

The Callisto Protocol is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. If you want to run the game with the best settings on your PC, check out our guide on it.
