Zenimax Online Studios, the developer behind The Elder Scrolls Online, is currently working on a brand new engine for a multiplatform title.
According to the LinkedIn profile of Ryan Ruzich, former senior gameplay programmer on The Elder Scrolls Online at Zenimax Online Studios, he had been working on a new engine for an unannounced project during his time at the studio. He mentioned that he had led the effort to get the new engine working on “third-party consoles”. Ruzich worked at Zenimax Online Studios between February, 2015 and November, 2022.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that the next mainline title in The Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls VI, will build upon the magic and leveling system from the prior entry. During an interview, lead designer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, senior systems designer for Starfied, and the former overall design director at Bethesda Softworks, Bruce Nesmith, mentioned that the game systems that were developed in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be further developed for The Elder Scrolls VI. He added that his “fingerprints” will be present on many of those elements.
According to Nesmith, the development team at Bethesda will continue to use the same concepts for dealing with how the player levels as well as other game systems as the foundation, with a bunch of new ideas thrown into the mix. As such, he believes that some of the systems he worked on will still be present in The Elder Scrolls VI.
