SNK has announced The King of Fighters XV at the recently held Evo 2019 championship. They have confirmed the game is now in development.
The King of Fighters is a cult-classic fighting game by SNK. They brought it back with a reboot earlier this generation that shifted the focus of the from traditional old-school 2D sprites to full 3D character models. It was released for PS4 and PC. This entry included more than 50 fighters and offered the same classic in-depth fighting system that has become a staple for the series.
SNK has recently brought back their Samura Shodown series as well with a reboot that used a 3D art style. Unlike their effort with King of Fighters XIV, Samurai Shodown had a slightly different art style that attempted to retain its original aesthetics. SNK hasn’t shown much for The King of Fighters XV as the teaser trailer was mostly a logo.
The announcement just confirmed that the game is now in development without listing any platforms for it. Judging from Samurai Shodown, this can also come to all platforms like PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
The King of Fighters XIV included 16 teams of three fighters each. Eight more characters were later added to the game with post-launch DLC. SNK is attempting the same thing with Samurai Shodown and has announced some details on the season pass for the game.
