A native PS5 version of PlayStation and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 may be in development, based on the latest information.
Keen-eyed Naughty Dog fans noted that the studio’s YouTube channel no longer lists the trailer for the performance patch for The Last of Us Part 2, suggesting that a native PS5 version may be around the corner.
It appears the original uploaded video of The Last of Us: Part II’s trailer for PS5’s performance patch was quietly taken down around between May and July of 2022. It is now listed as a private video, implying that the game may receive a native PS5 version to go with the recent release of The Last of Us Part 1 on PS5. It would also make sense for Naughty Dog to update The Last of Us Part 2 for a possible PC release down the road.
The PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 will likely include the usual features specific to the console, including haptics, adaptive triggers, 3D audio, and quicker load times. It’s also possible that Naughty Dog will add the new set of Photo Mode features that are already available in The Last of Us Part I.
Previously, head of PlayStation studios Hermen Hulst had stated that the remake for The Last of Us Part 1 was developed due to the desire for having a definitive version of the 2013 original. He further stated that the game was a little ahead of its time in terms of its creative vision, against the limitations of the technology at the time. According to him, the primary reason was simply because it was felt that the creative vision of the 2013 original was held back by the the limitations of the PS3 hardware.
A potential PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2 would also align with this line of thinking.
