Publisher Nacon had issued a letter of apology to fans over the poor state of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, but it was later discovered that it had been generated by the AI tool known as ChatGPT, and this didn’t help defuse the situation. The empty phrases and the misspelling of the game’s title in the letter only served to further fuel negativity surrounding the game.

Daedalic Entertainment has confirmed that the studio had no involvement whatsoever in writing the letter, and that the message came entirely from the publisher, Nacon, despite being addressed by the developer. It turns out that the letter was publicized without prior approval by the studio. As two anonymous sources have revealed, the apology wasn’t even written by a human being. Rather, it had been generated using the AI tool. ChatGPT.

In the allegedly AI generated apology, it is stated that Daedalic Entertainment would like to sincerely apologize for the underwhelming experience fans have had with The Lord of Ring: Gollum since its release. Furthermore, it is acknowledged that the game did not meet the expectations the development team had set for themselves or for its dedicated community.

It is mentioned in the letter that Daedelic Entertainment’s goal has always been to tell a compelling and immersive story-driven adventure. As per the letter, crafting a story with Middle-earth as the playground has the biggest challenge the development team had faced so far. It is further stated that the team will continue to keep fans updated on its progress and provide transparent communication regarding the upcoming patches and improvements.
