Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics have released the ninth developer mini-documentary for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, offering a closer look at the creatures Lara Croft will encounter during the game’s Greek ruins section. The latest video explores how the development team designed and brought these new enemies to life.
Following the previous documentary focused on the game’s depiction of Greece, the new episode shifts its attention to the creatures inhabiting the region. According to Game Director Raul Siqueira, these encounters are designed around learning enemy behavior and adapting Lara’s approach rather than simply overpowering each opponent.
“When you come to Greece, we are introducing a couple of new creatures for you to fight,” Siqueira explained. He described the combat encounters as a challenge in which players must understand how each creature behaves and adjust their playstyle accordingly.
The developers also want the encounters to reinforce Lara’s role as a capable hunter within the ruins. Siqueira explained that players are accustomed to entering these environments and taking control of them, creating a dynamic where Lara is positioned as the apex predator rather than the prey.
One of the creatures introduced in Greece is the Leopard. Its stealth-based approach is intended to test the player’s reactions, while Lara’s acrobatic abilities can be used to respond to its attacks and movement.
The Crocodile presents a different type of threat. It has a natural advantage when fighting underwater, but the creature can remain dangerous even after moving onto land. This gives players another enemy behavior to account for when navigating the environment.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is described as a reimagining of Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure. The game is being developed by Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics and will revisit the locations and encounters from the original while rebuilding them for modern platforms.
The latest documentary is part of an ongoing series examining different aspects of the game’s development. The previous episode focused on the Greek setting, while this installment concentrates specifically on the creatures that inhabit its ruins.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.
