It’s awards season once again, and we’d like to take this opportunity to present our own top 5 staff picks for Game of the Year 2023 at Twisted Voxel.
Before we delve into our top 5 staff picks for game of the year 2023, it’s worth mentioning that we went through a lot of great games, with plenty of debate, before narrowing the list down to just five. As is usually the case with such lists, it’s never easy to cram everyone’s favorites. At the end of the day, however, we’re happy with our list, and would like to honor the publishers and studios behind them, without whom the year simply wouldn’t have turned out as great as it did. At the same time, we’d like to express our concern over the large number of layoffs that hit the industry this year. Our heart goes out to all those developers who have been affected.
Twisted Voxel’s Top 5 Games Of The Year 2023
Without further ado, here are our top 5 games of the year 2023:
#5. Street Fighter 6
The latest entry in Capcom’s popular fighting game series impresses with its innovative Drive system, excellent online netcode, a host of solo game modes, and an in-depth training mode.
#4. Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Nintendo reinvents the wheel with its new 2D Mario game, delivering a classic that is brimming with creativity and hours of enjoyment.
#3. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Insomniac Games’ latest web-swinging adventure delivers the most fluid and intuitive traversal system we’ve experienced in a game to date. The game’s sense of speed, the expanded aerial combat, engaging boss fights, and an enjoyable story come together to deliver a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man that feels like a substantial improvement in just about every way.
#2. Resident Evil 4
Possibly the greatest remake ever made. Resident Evil 4 surpasses its predecessor in nearly every aspect. Capcom has breathed new life into the classic survival horror game, all while retaining the core mechanics that made the original so beloved. The recently added VR Mode takes immersion to a whole new level, delivering a fresh experience that’s worth the price of admission.
#1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Hyrule is a playground, and Link is a sculptor with tools at his disposal to carve a unique experience that is governed by the world’s laws of physics. It is possibly the most innovative and creative game we’ve played since Breath of the Wild. Nintendo builds upon its winning formula in creative and imaginative ways, delivering a gameplay experience that is like no other for a majority of us here at Twisted Voxel, earning it the title of our Game of the Year 2023.
