Ubisoft Is Developing An Open-World Star Wars Game

If you weren’t already surprised by the announcement yesterday the Lucasfilm Games is working on an upcoming Indiana Jones title in conjunction with Bethesda, then the news that the company is also developing a new Star Wars game with Ubisoft should really leave you flabbergasted.

Yes, you read that correctly. Ubisoft, the powerhouse behind the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry franchises, is working on an open-world Star Wars game.

Lucasfilm Games has categorically defined this new title as ‘A new story-driven, open-world Star Wars game.‘

Development is being handled by Ubisoft subsidiary Massive Entertainment, which most recently worked on 2019’s Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. The game will be developed with the studio’s own Snowdrop engine, and Julian Gerighty, director of The Crew and The Division 2, will serve as the game’s creative director.

Lucasfilm Games has also clarified that just because Ubisoft is working on a Star Wars game now, that doesn’t mean that Electronic Arts is out of the picture.

The publisher still has some projects currently in development, but they’re keeping everything under wraps for now.

“We’re really proud of the games we have created with EA. We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger,” Douglas Reilly – Vice President of Lucasfilm Games.

Now as far as actual details about the Ubisoft title are concerned, we don’t actually know anything about it apart from its open-world structure. There were no hints given about its genre, gameplay, or even what era or aspect of the Star Wars universe it will focus on.

But whatever this game turns out to be, it’s hard not to be excited.
