Blizzard Entertainment’s massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft, is set to receive Xbox controller support.
According to the information displayed in a controller map displayed at BlizzCon 2026 (via domacadin and IdleSloth84_ on Twitter/X), an alpha version of the feature is currently available for testing at the event. Xbox controller support in World of Warcraft is currently limited to the Skyborne 1-10 experience., and the dungeon playtest does not yet support gamepad functionality. The system will detect when a gamepad is being used, allowing players to switch to controller input by pressing any button while in the Skyborne starting zone.
The left analog stick on the Xbox controller handles movement, while the right analog stick is used to adjust the camera. Players can change their focus frame using the View button, while the Menu button opens the radial menu. The face buttons are similarly mapped to gameplay actions. Y is assigned to using a spell, while B provides a back/use-spell function. A is used for jumping and using a spell, and X handles interaction and spell use. The directional pad is also assigned to spell usage.
Given that Xbox controller support is in an alpha state, the above layout may change before the feature is launched.
Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft Forever at BlizzCon 2026, a new permanent version of the MMORPG focused on a reimagined version of the original Azeroth. World of Warcraft Forever will launch on November 4, 2026, with its beta beginning September 17, giving players a new way to experience the game’s original continents alongside modern and Classic WoW. It is set after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before the events of Molten Core. Players will return to the original continents, progress to level 60 and experience new stories, systems and updates built around Blizzard’s plans to continue expanding this version of Azeroth.
