Xbox Game Pass Rumored To Receive Major Changes In 2027, Including Ads Tier & No Day One Releases

Xbox Game Pass will receive major changes in the year 2027, including an ads tier and no day one releases, according to a new rumor.

The information was shared by ResetEra forums moderator Slayven, who claimed that Microsoft is planning a major restructuring of its Xbox Game Pass offerings next year in 2027 by introducing and ads tier and moving away from day one releases alongside other changes. While he said that the information should be taken with a grain of salt, he added that he personally knows the individual who shared the details with him and that they have been correct with their information in the past.

Xbox game pass ads day one releases

According to the claims, Microsoft will introduce two main Xbox Game Pass options, with one subscription supported by advertisements and another without ads. The ad-supported tier is reportedly set to cost 12.99 US Dollars per month, while the ad-free option will cost 19.99 US Dollars monthly or 239.99 US Dollars annually. The latter brings a 3 US Dollar reduction from the current monthly price, reportedly because new games will no longer launch on Xbox Game Pass day one starting sometime between February and April, 2027.

Cloud streaming is also reportedly being separated from the main Xbox Game Pass subscription. According to Slayven, cloud streaming will become an optional 5.99 US Dollar add-on providing 25 hours of streaming access.

Microsoft is also said to be changing how online multiplayer and the Xbox Game Pass library are offered. Online multiplayer could become a standalone subscription costing 10.99 US Dollars per month. Meanwhile, a separate 14.99 US Dollars monthly option would reportedly provide access to the Xbox Game Pass library alongside online multiplayer. Lastly, a family plan is also reportedly being introduced as an additional 5.99 US Dollars-per-month option.

These alleged changes are a major departure from Microsoft’s current Xbox Game Pass strategy, especially the claimed end of day-one releases.
