Xbox System Update Set To Improve Download Speeds While Games Are Running
A new Xbox system update preview is rolling out today for Alpha Skip-Ahead users, and it brings a number of features and fixes to improve the user experience.
The Insider system update for Xbox offers additional network optimizations to improve content downloads while games are running, along with various updates to properly reflect local languages across the console and background improvements that ensure a quality and stable build for Xbox consoles.
After installing the Insider Xbox system update, Twitter user IdleSloth84_ has tested download speeds while running games. Based on their findings, games are now downloading at 380 mbps on their internet connection while a game is running. Usually, games download at 480 mbps with no game running in the background on their connection. The new update essentially brings download speeds while running apps much closer to download speeds while not running them, with gains of around 40 to 80 mbps.
As for known issues with the Xbox OS, Microsoft is aware of users experiencing intermittent issues with audio across the dashboard, games, and apps, certain titles experiencing unexpected graphical issues, the console not connecting to the network as expected on boot, and errors navigating to Home or opening the guide, or the console remaining on the boot-up animation longer than expected.

Previously, it was reported that Microsoft may be looking to bring an overhaul to Xbox Achievements in a future system update sometime this year. This information was shared by Shpeshal Nick during an earlier episode of the XboxEra Podcast. Nick didn’t mention any specifics, but it’s likely to include something similar to PlayStation Network’s Platinum trophy, which is generally obtained by unlocking all other achievements for a game. Other new features may include a revamped Achievements UI.
