Bandai Namco’s Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has surpassed 7.5 million copies sold, cementing its position as the best-selling game in the long-running aerial combat franchise.
According to newly shared sales data, the Ace Combat series has now sold approximately 21.5 million copies worldwide, with Ace Combat 7 accounting for 7.5 million of those sales. That represents roughly 34.9% of all Ace Combat sales, meaning more than one in every three copies sold across the franchise belongs to the 2019 release.
No previous entry comes close to matching its commercial performance. The original Air Combat, released for the PlayStation in 1995, remains the franchise’s second best-selling title with 2.23 million copies sold, while Ace Combat 04 follows with 2.64 million copies. Other major entries include Ace Combat 5 and Ace Combat Assault Horizon, each with 1.8 million copies sold.
The figures also highlight the importance of the PlayStation 2 era, with Ace Combat 04, Ace Combat 5, Ace Combat Zero, Ace Combat X and Ace Combat Advance combining for 5.232 million copies, or 24.3% of the franchise’s lifetime sales. Meanwhile, the original PlayStation trilogy accounts for 4.48 million copies, representing 20.8% of the total.
Ace Combat 7 has maintained steady momentum since launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on January 18, 2019. The game reached 2 million copies by mid-2020 before climbing to 2.5 million in early 2021, 3 million later that year, 4 million in early 2023, and 5 million in early 2024.
The Nintendo Switch version launched on July 11, 2024, after which the game continued to hit new milestones, reaching 6 million copies in early 2025, 7 million in early 2026, and now 7.5 million copies in mid-2026.
