Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio may have just given us our first look at Yakuza Kiwami 4 during an official broadcast.

During a recent official broadcast (via BETTERGAMER4EVR n Twitter/X), Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) Studio showed its latest products and merchandise available for purchase. Among the images shown, there was one containing what looked like a Dragon Engine render of Daigo Dojima.

Daigo Dojima’s appearance hasn’t been announced for any upcoming entry in the series. The image appears to have been taken from a well-known scene from Yakuza 4 featuring the character, suggesting that this may be our first look at Yakuza Kiwami 4.

While we’re referring to the unannounced title as Yakuza Kiwami 4, it will receive a different official name. During the Ryusta TV livestream in February, RGG Studio  producer, director and writer Masayoshi Yokoyama announced that Yakuza Kiwami 3 will the last game to use the ‘Kiwami’ branding. He further clarified that future entries, will instead be released as part of a brand new series. As such, Yakuza 4 and 5’s stories are being heavily rewritten to fully align with the Daidoji universe. Changes to Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties endings will set the stage for a different plot compared to that of the original Yakuza 4.

Yakuza 4 is an action-adventure game released for the PS3 in Japan in March, 2010, and internationally a year later in March, 2011. It is a direct follow-up to Yakuza 3 and the fourth main entry in the series. An updated remastered edition was released for the PS4 in Japan on January 17, 2019, before arriving worldwide on October 29, 2019, as part of The Yakuza Remastered Collection. PC and Xbox One versions were later released in January, 2021. The remaster also introduced a major casting change. Following actor Hiroki Narimiya’s retirement from the entertainment industry after allegations of drug use, the character Masayoshi Tanimura was recast, with Toshiki Masuda assuming the role.
