The Gamescom presentation for The Witcher 3: Songs Of The Past has revealed several new details about the upcoming expansion and the accompanying Remastered update. CD Projekt Red kept the story under wraps, but confirmed a substantial new region, additional monsters, combat improvements and more advanced NPC routines.
New Letten Region
Songs Of The Past will introduce Letten, a new open-world region comparable in scope to the Blood and Wine expansion. Players will be able to explore the area freely while discovering new quests, characters, locations and monsters.
Known as the Land of Plenty, Letten draws inspiration from the Polish and English countryside. Its architecture, landscapes and Pagan-esque customs will give the region a distinct identity compared with other areas of The Witcher 3.
CD Projekt Red is also expanding its NPC simulation for the new area. Characters will have more complex daily routines, activities and interactions, with more detailed dialogue intended to make Letten feel more dynamic.
New Monsters And Combat Tools
Songs Of The Past will introduce new monsters, including the Swarmion. The creature protects itself with a swarm of hornets, creating a defensive mechanic that Geralt must overcome.
Geralt will receive a new chain tool that can be used against enemies such as the Swarmion. The chain can break through the creature’s hornet shield and includes a weak point system, allowing players to target specific vulnerabilities during combat.
The Remastered update will also make combat smoother and more precise. CD Projekt Red specifically highlighted improvements to the camera and targeting behaviour, which are intended to improve Geralt’s handling during fights.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will introduce broader visual improvements, including advanced ray tracing, enhanced lighting and other graphical upgrades.
The Remastered version is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for existing owners on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, alongside a native Nintendo Switch 2 version.
Songs Of The Past is being developed alongside Fool’s Theory and is scheduled to launch in 2027. The expansion will combine a large new region with additional enemies, gameplay systems and deeper world simulation, making it a substantial addition to The Witcher 3 rather than a smaller content update.
