Actor, writer, and content creator Alanah Pearce worked on the narrative for Santa Monica Studio’s upcoming God of War Laufey.
In her latest Instagram post, former Santa Monica Studio writer Alanah Pearce shared that God of War Laufey is the project she had been working on during her time at Sony Santa Monica Studio.”So here’s the God of War game I spent four years writing,” she said.
Pearce further mentioned that she’s proud of everyone at the studio. While she is well aware of the talent the development team possesses, she found that God of War Laufey turned out even better than she imagined, and she can’t wait to get her hands on the final game. “I am so unbelievably proud of everyone at Santa Monica Studio – I am well aware of the incredible talent that team possesses, but it’s more beautiful than I ever imagined. I cannot wait to play it (again technically), now as a fan!” In December 2024, Pearce announced her departure from Santa Monica Studio, explaining that she wanted greater flexibility to spend more time with her family in Australia.
Last year in May, 2025, Pearce shared a disappointing yet insightful analysis of the state of the game industry, based on data she received through her discussions with investors, highlighting systemic issues that are impossible to ignore. She broke down the complex economic, technological, and demographic forces contributing to widespread layoffs, studio closures, and stagnating growth.
According to Pearce, the game industry has become deeply entangled with stock market expectations of exponential growth, which is no longer realistically achievable. Many of the monetization models that once propelled industry profits, such as free-to-play games, battle passes, and “whale”-targeted microtransactions, have plateaued. She noted that the market has become saturated, and the novelty that once drove investor enthusiasm has worn thin.
