AMD Announces FSR 4.1 for Radeon RX 6000 GPUs, Xbox Series X|S, and Handhelds

AMD Expands FSR 4.1 Support to Older Radeon GPUs and Xbox Gaming Hardware

AMD has announced plans to bring FSR 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, Xbox Series X|S, and supported gaming handhelds, expanding the availability of its machine learning-based upscaling technology. Jack Huynh, AMD’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, outlined the plans in a post on X, alongside updates on frame generation, ray regeneration, and Vulkan support.

FSR 4.1 will extend to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, covering models from the RX 6900 series down to the RX 6400 class. AMD says it has refined its machine learning model and optimised the code path for the older hardware, with the aim of improving image quality and performance. The Radeon RX 6800 XT is among the cards highlighted for improved clarity and 4K performance.

AMD is also expanding support to systems powered by its Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo platforms, including mini PCs and mobile workstations. The company says FSR 4.1 can provide better image quality than FSR 3.1 at higher quality presets in performance mode, particularly during motion, while maintaining frame rates above 60 FPS in the targeted configurations.

For laptops equipped with Strix and Gorgon Ryzen 9 processors, as well as handhelds powered by the Z2E and Z2A chips, AMD has developed a smaller machine learning model. According to the company, it is less than half the size of its original M8 model and has been tested across hundreds of laptop configurations and handheld devices.

ASUS has also confirmed plans to bring FSR 4.1 to its ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. AMD says the technology will improve image reconstruction and graphical clarity, including at 1080p resolution. Support is also planned for compatible ASUS systems, including ROG Strix Halo-powered machines, the ROG Flow Z13, and the TUF A14.

FSR 4.1 Is Also Coming to Xbox Series X|S

AMD and Xbox are extending their long-running partnership with plans to bring FSR 4.1 to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles. The technology is also planned for the Xbox Ally handhelds, giving developers additional options to improve image quality and performance across Microsoft’s gaming hardware.

Xbox says the companies will continue collaborating on hardware and software technologies, with Project Helix also mentioned as part of their future plans. Xbox also referred to FSR Diamond in discussing the next stage of the partnership.

AMD Details Further FSR Improvements

AMD says FSR Redstone is now available in more than 400 games on Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards. The company is also working on improvements to frame generation aimed at delivering more consistent frame pacing and smoother gameplay.

Ray regeneration support is expected to expand to more games, while FSR support for Vulkan is also in development. The Vulkan integration will give developers another option for incorporating AMD’s upscaling technology into their games.
