Bluepoint Games has been officially acquired by Sony in an announcement that was posted on the PlayStation Blog. This was leaked earlier by PlayStation Japan.
So who are Bluepoint Games you ask? Well, they started small by working as a porting studio for several classic games. These included the remaster of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid Trilogy, and God of War Collection. They proved to be the best in the business when it came to remastering games, but with the remakes of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, they took this even further and showcased exceptional skills and technical knowledge.
Since they have been working exclusively with PlayStation for a long time, it was naturally assumed that they would be acquired by Sony, and this was leaked earlier through the PlayStation Japan social media account when Sony acquired Housemarque. They tweeted an image of Bluepoint Games being acquired by Sony, although they changed it to Housemarque quickly.
In a message posted on the official PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, head of the PlayStation Studios, welcome the studio to the PlayStation family.
Today I’m very excited to announce that PlayStation Studios has grown again with the addition of long-time partner Bluepoint Games! From the exceptional PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls to the critically acclaimed PS4 remake of Shadow of the Colossus and remasters of fan favorites like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Bluepoint has built a name for itself by creating some of the highest-quality remasters and remakes in the industry.
With each of its projects, Bluepoint has raised the bar on console-defining visuals and gameplay, and the studio’s vast expertise in world building and character creation will be a huge plus for future PlayStation Studios properties.
In an interview with IGN, it was confirmed that the next project by Bluepoint Games is not a remake but a brand new game.
Sony has made a lot of acquisitions recently from Housemarque, Firesprite Games, Nixxess, to now Bluepoint Games. They are not done with getting more studios, so we could be hearing about more additions shortly.
