Horizon Forbidden West was supposed to be one of the biggest games of the year and it was confirmed for a 2021 release, but that has changed now.

During the ongoing Gamescom, Guerrilla Games announced a 60 FPS update for Horizon Zero Dawn and also confirmed the release date, which was initially teased for late 2021, and it has been pushed to February 18, 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West will see Aloy continue her journey in a post-apocalyptic world which is ravaged by robotic dinosaurs. It is an action RPG developed using the Decima Engine, that is also used for Death Stranding. The game was confirmed to support 60 FPS but won’t feature some of the next-generation effects like Ray-Tracing.

Writing on the official PlayStation Blog, Mathijs de Jonge, who is the game director mentions the earlier gameplay demo and said “At that time, Horizon Forbidden West had just passed a major milestone and we had entered the final stage of development; on track, but a bit uncertain if we’d be able to polish the game to the level of quality we strive for.”

“It’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic; we have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance.”

He then confirms that the new release date of the game is February 18, 2022. There are no pre-orders available for now but they should start going live from September 2, 2021.
