Battlefield 6 Update 1.4.2.0 arrives on August 18, bringing the Top Gun event, the return of Wake Island, an expanded Tsuru Reef, two new fighter jets, and the Interdictor sniper rifle. The update also introduces Top Gun: Carrier Strike, Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep, a new Crashed Carrier POI in Fort Lyndon, and new Event Challenges.
Alongside the new content, the update delivers a substantial set of gameplay improvements and fixes across vehicles, weapons, gadgets, maps, modes, UI, Portal, audio, AI, and underwater gameplay. Players can also expect improved aircraft controls, additional Portal tools, weapon and gadget adjustments, and numerous REDSEC fixes.
New Content
Top Gun Event
- The Top Gun event introduces new aerial warfare experiences across Battlefield 6 and REDSEC.
- The F/A-81F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat are new two-seat fighter jets designed for pilots and wingmen.
- Top Gun: Carrier Strike brings a reimagined combined-arms Carrier Assault experience.
- Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep introduces a jets-only aerial combat experience in REDSEC.
- Wake Island returns as a new map.
- New Event Challenges allow players to earn Ace Medals.
- Ace Medals can be spent on Top Gun-themed cosmetics in the Event menu.
- CJTF Helix has been added as a new squad unit inspired by Top Gun characters.
Wake Island
- Wake Island has been added to Battlefield 6.
- The map features infantry, vehicle, and aircraft combat across its coastal terrain.
- Players can defend the shoreline, destroy reinforced positions with C-4, and use the offshore aircraft carrier during battles.
Tsuru Reef Expansion
- Tsuru Reef has been expanded with playable aircraft carriers.
- Aircraft carriers now appear as part of the environment in Conquest and Escalation.
- Full carrier gameplay is exclusive to Top Gun: Carrier Strike.
Top Gun: Carrier Strike
- Carrier Assault returns in a reimagined form as Top Gun: Carrier Strike.
- Infantry, naval, and aviation squads must work together to destroy the opposing aircraft carrier.
- Ground forces must break through enemy lines and secure the path forward.
- Naval units support the assault while aviators fight for control of the skies.
- Victory is achieved by breaching and destroying the enemy carrier.
New Fort Lyndon POI
- The USS Grant has been added as a new Crashed Carrier POI in Battle Royale.
- The crashed aircraft carrier creates a new coastal combat area.
- The POI contains higher-value loot than standard locations.
- The Crashed Carrier will be marked as a High Value Zone for the first few weeks.
Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep
- Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep is a jets-only REDSEC mode focused on aerial combat.
- Players can pilot the new two-seat fighter jets with a wingman.
- Squads must eliminate rival aircraft, avoid anti-aircraft fire, and secure the victory.
New Vehicles
- The F/A-81F Super Spectre has been added as a two-seat fighter jet focused on aerial superiority and precision strikes.
- The F-74A Seacat has been added as a two-seat fighter jet featuring variable-sweep wings designed for speed, manoeuvrability, and aerial combat.
New Weapon
- The Interdictor sniper rifle has been added.
- The Interdictor is designed for extreme-distance engagements.
- The weapon can be used against exposed targets, including aviators inside aircraft cockpits.
- The Interdictor can be unlocked through the Battle Pass.
Battlefield 6 Free Trial
- Battlefield 6 will be free to play from August 18 through August 25.
- The trial provides access to six modes across four maps.
- Available maps include Tsuru Reef, Wake Island, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base.
Player Improvements
- A new score event has been added for forcing enemy aircraft to deploy countermeasures.
- Swimming weapon-swap arm animations have been improved.
- Unintended bubble effects after spawning have been removed.
- New first-person and third-person animations have been added for underwater swimming.
- Players are no longer thrown from ladders when picked up while entering or exiting the climbing stance.
- Soldier animation transitions now begin from the correct position.
- Soldier bodies now use the correct sinking animation in water.
- Soldier bodies now behave correctly when dying on ladders.
- Fatal external and drowning damage no longer causes soldiers to enter an unrevivable state.
- Wave interactions no longer cause soldiers to twitch while standing on inclined surfaces.
- Downed soldiers now float correctly when transitioning in water.
- Spray Paint placement performance has been optimised.
- Spray Paints no longer bleed through surfaces behind their intended placement.
- Spray Paints now appear correctly on additional supported objects.
- Spray placement has been improved across multiple surface types.
- The death camera now correctly rotates towards the player responsible for an elimination.
- The revive animation pen now remains correctly positioned when the player aims.
- Recon UAVs can no longer be called in multiple times from a single use.
- Weapon flashlights and lasers can no longer be toggled with a controller while the Pause menu is open.
Vehicle Improvements
- Jet landing gear physics have been improved for take-off, landing, and taxiing.
- ALM-93 Lock-Guided AA Missile projectiles no longer have unintended collision behaviour.
- A new assisted aircraft control option has been added.
- The option guides aircraft towards the centre of the camera view.
- Pitch, roll, and yaw are managed automatically.
- Firing lock-on rockets from a Jet no longer causes unintended aircraft movement or damage.
- First-person animations have been added when exiting a vehicle underwater.
- Jet control surface movement has been increased for improved visual flight response.
- Laser-designated targets are now visible when using the Patrol Boat Mortar and Deployable Mortar.
- Patrol Boat Naval Mine visual states now remain synchronised for all players.
- The AGM-88 now uses the correct projectile model.
- Fighter Jet Precision Bombs can now track laser-designated targets correctly.
- The Su-57 R-73 now fires the correct projectile.
- Above-water and underwater vehicle view transitions have been improved.
- Vehicle splash effects now remain visible correctly from greater distances.
- Vehicles are no longer immobilised by mines when outside their blast radius.
RCB-90 Patrol Boat
- RCB-90 Aim-Guided Missiles can now be diverted by flares after entering their self-guidance phase.
- RCB-90 Aim-Guided Missiles now appear correctly in the Killcard.
- RCB-90 Aim-Guided Missiles now provide the intended lock-on warning.
- The RCB-90 Patrol Boat can now be laser designated correctly.
Gadget Changes
- Defibrillator charges now fully replenish while swimming.
- Missiles now react more quickly to target countermeasures.
- Supply Bags now correctly break glass when thrown through it.
- TRCRv2 Tracer Dart targets can now be locked onto by lock-on launchers.
- The CSB IV EOD Bot Repair Tool now benefits from the Overheat Control Field Upgrade.
Weapon Changes
- Additional presentation and attachment consistency improvements have been made to the EF88.
- An unintended recoil modifier has been removed from VSSM barrel attachments.
- The RPK-74M animation pose issue has been corrected.
- L115 muzzle attachment text now displays correctly.
- Match Grade Ammo now deals the intended damage against swimming soldiers.
- Match Grade Ammo on the M2010 ESR and SVK-8.6 no longer applies unintended damage reductions.
- Mini Scout 50 mW Violet attachments now correctly adjust to the lower rail when used with larger optics.
- Missing visual effects and material behaviour have been added to the EF88 and VSSM.
- The BROD 3 now uses the correct zoom level with the 3.00x Thermal Sight.
- The 1/4x LPVO 5 description now matches its intended behaviour.
- The EF88 Canted Iron Sight icon now displays in the correct position.
- The LMR27 no longer causes canted red dot sights and larger optics to clip into the first-person camera.
- The NVO-228E left arm animation now displays correctly during reloads.
- The VSSM 200mm Barrel now displays the correct weight value.
- VSSM limb damage multipliers have been adjusted.
- Sniper Rifles used by non-Recon classes now transition into aiming down sights more smoothly and apply the intended aim offset immediately.
Progression Changes
- Vehicle Support Destroy Assists now correctly track the weapon used to destroy the vehicle.
- Weapon statistics now update correctly for the EF88, BROD, and VSSM.
Maps and Modes
- Collision has been improved across multiple maps to reduce cases where players become stuck or can be shot through walls.
- Commander arrows on the Deploy Screen now animate correctly in Squad Obliteration.
- Heavy smoke effects and level-of-detail transitions have been optimised to reduce GPU performance spikes.
- M-COMs already armed when Overtime begins no longer explode immediately.
- Manhattan Bridge out-of-bounds boundaries have been updated to restore access to the intended gameplay space around Objective D.
- Several map exploits have been closed, including unintended rooftop access on Cairo Bazaar and Manhattan Bridge.
- Spawn points have been adjusted across Manhattan Bridge, Eastwood, Saints Quarter, Contaminated, and Siege of Cairo.
- The Objective E M-COM on Railway to Golmud is now correctly aligned with the terrain in Obliteration.
- Cairo Bazaar’s playable area has been reshaped with additional out-of-bounds zones to prevent access to unintended rooftops and exploitable buildings.
Hagental Base
- Capture areas have been adjusted to prevent objectives from being captured from the sewers.
- Players can no longer be eliminated through walls near Objective B.
- Players no longer become stuck behind crates near Objective D.
- Visual boundary lines for Objective A in Sector 2 have been improved in Operations and Breakthrough.
UI and HUD
- Patrol Boat Aim-Guided Anti-Air Missiles now use the correct inventory icon.
- Attack Helicopter gunner weapons now use the correct inventory icons.
- Custom Big Map zoom bindings now work correctly.
- Disruptor Training Path descriptions now use the correct terminology.
- Loading screen tips now appear correctly for Obliteration and Squad Obliteration.
- Lock-on launchers now correctly display their locking UI when targeting laser-designated locations.
- Map, mode, and header information now display correctly during pre-game lobbies and mission briefings.
- Multiple Loadout screen character animation clipping issues have been corrected.
- Multiple cosmetic items now display the correct icons and information.
- Vehicle pings now appear where the player is aiming rather than directly in front of the vehicle.
- Platform logos now display correctly on lobby screens.
- Radio selection now displays only one checkmark at a time.
- Returning to the Event menu after selecting View Store Bundles now navigates to the correct menu.
- Reward presentation has been updated across the Battle Pass, Challenges, Player Card Collections, and Mastery Badges.
- Secondary weapon swap prompts in the Assault Loadout widget now display more clearly.

Settings
- A new ADS Dispersion Crosshair option has been added to visualise weapon dispersion while aiming down sights.
- The dispersion indicator increases in size as weapon accuracy decreases while firing.
- The indicator also shows how movement affects weapon accuracy.
- ADS Dispersion Crosshair is enabled by default in the Firing Range.
- The option can be disabled or enabled in other Multiplayer experiences.
- Players can adjust the indicator’s opacity and colour.
- A client crash that could occur when backing out of the Settings menu has been fixed.
- Weapon FOV set to Narrow now correctly applies after respawning.
Portal
- A new mutator enables the Conquest version of aircraft carriers on Tsuru Reef.
- Capture point UI now appears for custom-placed capture points.
- Creators hosting on dedicated servers can now send the Portal Log to the administrator’s client.
- Custom Lobbies are now available through Portal as an early implementation.
- Custom Lobbies support Battle Royale Quads and Conquest.
- Hosts can assign players to specific teams.
- Hosts can select compatible maps.
- Spectating can be enabled.
- Network messaging performance has been improved for experiences running more than 1,000 looping OverTime actions.

- Vehicle radio music is now more audible from third-person view for players inside vehicles with the radio enabled.
AI
- Bot soldiers now prioritise nearby vehicles over swimming from their HQ when travelling towards nearby objectives.
REDSEC
Crashed Carrier POI
- The USS Grant has been added as a Crashed Carrier POI in Battle Royale.
- The location creates a new coastal combat area.
- The POI contains higher-value loot than standard locations.

REDSEC Fixes
- Supply Drops now fall through the air in the correct orientation.
- A Weapon Cache at the Golf Course has been moved to prevent players from becoming trapped between a wall and an opened Safe.
- Tank eliminations in Gauntlet: Rodeo now award the correct number of points.
- The Bradley tank now spawns correctly in Gauntlet: Rodeo.
- A mode-specific tutorial has been added for Battle Royale Solos.
- Battle Royale mission HUD widgets are now correctly aligned.
- Battle Royale Victory Presentation character appearances now correctly match each squad member’s Player Card and Stat Highlights.
