Game Science has released a new 15 minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, providing the first extended look at the upcoming action RPG’s combat and story.
The footage introduces the game’s protagonist in combat and offers a glimpse at the narrative, although Game Science has stressed that development is still in its early stages. The entire trailer was captured from an in-game work-in-progress build running at a 21:9 aspect ratio, meaning the final game may look or play differently.
Alongside the trailer, Game Science shared a short poetic description that hints at the game’s themes of relationships, past deeds and the connection between the living world and the Underworld.
The developer described Black Myth: Zhong Kui as the second entry in the Black Myth series, following Black Myth: Wukong. The new game is inspired by the Chinese folklore surrounding Zhong Kui, the legendary deity known for hunting and banishing evil spirits.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is being developed as a single-player action RPG, with players taking control of Zhong Kui as he travels between the human realm and the Underworld while confronting supernatural enemies.
The game is expected to retain the action-focused approach associated with the Black Myth series, while placing greater emphasis on themes surrounding life and death and presenting a darker, gothic-inspired atmosphere.
