Blasphemous sales have reached a major new milestone, with developer The Game Kitchen confirming that the acclaimed Metroidvania has surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide.

The milestone was revealed in a post on the studio’s official social media account, where it thanked players for their continued support.

“Our deepest gratitude to every Penitent who has embraced the suffering and journeyed through the lands of Cvstodia,” the developer said.

Blasphemous first launched on September 10, 2019, and is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game has also been released on macOS, Linux and Amazon Luna.

Developed by Spanish studio The Game Kitchen and published by Team17, Blasphemous is a 2D side-scrolling Metroidvania that takes players through the dark world of Cvstodia. Players control the Penitent One, battling enemies and exploring interconnected environments in an attempt to break the curse known as the Miracle.

The new sales figure marks another major milestone for the title, which has continued to attract players since its original release.
