Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown DLC Adds Ocean Exploration and Romance

by Greg Martin

Pearl Abyss has detailed the features coming to Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, the game’s first major paid expansion, which launches on October 29, 2026. The DLC will introduce ocean exploration, shipbuilding, underwater diving, romance options, expanded housing customisation, and new combat challenges.

The story will continue the journeys of Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka as they pursue their own paths after the fight for the Greymanes and Pywel. Players will encounter familiar characters and new faces while facing fresh threats across the continent.

One of the biggest additions is the Great Ocean of Pywel, which surrounds the eastern and southern parts of the continent. Players will be able to unlock shipbuilding after establishing the Greymane Camp, gather resources, construct vessels, and customise their ships before setting sail for distant islands and unexplored locations. Some of these areas will be occupied by enemy factions.

Players can also bring their comrades to the islands and establish new strongholds. Hostile forces will threaten those travelling across the ocean, requiring players to fight back and secure their position. Underwater exploration will introduce diving suits, sunken ruins, hidden treasures, and additional resources, alongside new ways to travel beneath the surface.

The expansion will also add romance options for the three main characters. As their relationships with certain inhabitants of Pywel develop, Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka will be able to pursue romantic relationships and eventually marry. Trusted companions may also visit the Greymane Camp, giving players more opportunities to spend time with them.

Stronghold management will receive further changes. Players will be able to take direct control of certain facilities in liberated locations, lease properties, assign equipment and comrades, and select which goods to sell. They can also develop each business by increasing its level of recognition.

Housing customisation will offer more control over interior layouts, including the placement of walls, windows, and other structural elements. Players who liberate certain castles will also be able to claim them as their own, decorate their interiors, and use them as additional homes.

For players looking for tougher fights, the DLC will introduce a series of powerful bosses that must be defeated in succession. These encounters will test players’ combat skills and strategy, with valuable rewards available for completing the challenges.

Crimson Desert launched worldwide on March 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, and PC. Developed and published by Pearl Abyss, the open-world action-adventure follows Kliff as he attempts to reunite the scattered Greymanes and rebuild the fallen mercenary faction.
