Death Stranding is now available on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and if you’re wondering how it compares to the existing PS5 version running on both the base console as well as the PS5 Pro in Boost mode, read ahead.
Death Stranding offers two display modes on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, namely Quality and Performance. In terms of graphical settings, the Xbox Series X version is identical to the PS5 version across both modes. The game has not received a dedicated patch for the PS5 Pro, and, therefore, it runs identically across both the PS5 and PS5 Pro in terms of visuals. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S version of Death Stranding suffers from some graphical cutbacks, mainly noticeable in the reduced quality of terrain and water. It also slightly decreases the quality of shadows, ambient occlusion and post-processing effects.
In terms of image quality, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Death Stranding run at a resolution of native 4K (2160p) in Quality mode. In Performance mode, both consoles run at a resolution of 1800p. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S runs the game at a native resolution of 1080p in its Quality mode and 900p in its Performance mode.
With regards to performance, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions of the game target a frame rate of 60 fps in both Quality and Performance modes, though Quality mode exhibits drops and is unable to maintain the target frame rate as well as Performance mode. However, the PS5 Pro is able to deliver a more consistent 60 fps in both Quality and Performnce modes.
All in all, Death Stranding is well optimized across all platforms, with PS5 and Xbox Series X delivering an equivalent overall console experience. Those who own a PS5 Pro can now experience the game in Quality mode at a stable 60 fps mode without compromise.
