Dragon Quest XII Story Is Complete, Will Use Unreal Engine 5

by Salal Awan

Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest XII today along with sharing some information on the game. We also find out that it uses Unreal Engine 5.

Dragon Quest XII is the next chapter in the popular JRPG series. The last game was developed using Unreal Engine 4, and the new one is following this trend with Unreal Engine 5, the next-generation cutting-edge engine from Epic. They recently showcased its features for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

Speaking on this occasion, the series creator and producer Yuji Hori shared a recruitment message. He mentions the challenges that they have to face on the next Dragon Quest game confirming that the story is done and they have created a prototype that they feel is going to be a lot of fun.

Hello. This is Horii.
The “Dragon Quest” series has finally reached its 35th anniversary. We have been able to continue for this long because of the fans who have supported “Dragon Quest” and the many staff members who have been involved in the project. Thank you very much.
We have officially announced the latest title, “Dragon Quest XII: The Chosen Flame of Destiny”, and this time I would like to talk about the recruitment of new development staff for “XII”.
The previous title, “Dragon Quest XI: Seeking the Past,” was the “culmination” of the series, and we took the royal “hero’s story” and made it playable on any hardware (PS4, 3DS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC), in 2D or 3D.
That in itself was a new challenge, but with Dragon Quest XII, we’re taking it even further. I’ve already said it, but I’ll say it again. First of all, the command battles of the past will be completely renewed. We’re not telling you how we’re going to make it new, but we’ve already made a prototype, and as the staff and I touch the game, we’re convinced that it’s going to be a lot of fun.
The story is finished, and all we have to do is implement it, but it’s a big game, so it will take some time to complete. But! If you apply for this new development staff position, you will be the first to see the new Dragon Quest. Or rather, you can work with us to create it!
Won’t you join us and challenge the new Dragon Quest? I’ll be waiting for your applications.
Life is a role-playing game.

The official Dragon Quest Japan Twitter account has revealed that this game will use the new Unreal Engine 5.

The game has only received an official logo reveal so far and no platforms have been mentioned. Since it is using the latest Unreal Engine, we can count on the current-generation consoles along with PC as the leading platforms for now.
