Capcom has shared a closer look at Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, with Director Kento Kinoshita and Producer Naoto Oyama discussing the expansion’s new content, gameplay changes and major improvements arriving in upcoming title updates.
According to the development team, the Dark Arisen subtitle was chosen not only because it suits the expansion’s story set in the new region of Norgan, but also because its gameplay structure is inspired by the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. The team said the familiar name should also give longtime fans a clearer idea of what to expect from the expansion.
Kinoshita also highlighted expanded Vocation options as one of the features he is most excited for. A title update due at the end of August will increase the number of equippable Weapon Skills from 4 to 6, while the expansion itself adds new skills for every Vocation. Oyama, meanwhile, pointed to the new Relic Appraisal system, which allows players to obtain weapons, armour and skills with random attributes.
The expansion is designed to offer a greater challenge than the main game. Both Forsaken Dominion and Lost Rites feature tougher encounters, with difficulty increasing as players progress. Capcom also confirmed it is developing a Hard Mode aimed at experienced players nearing or reaching the level cap, although further details will be shared at a later date. Recommended starting levels are 40 for Forsaken Dominion and 20 for Lost Rites, though players will be free to tackle either activity earlier if they choose.
Players travelling through Norgan can also expect new enemies alongside regional variants of existing monsters. The developers said the expansion begins with creatures suited to the icy setting before gradually shifting towards darker-themed foes as the story unfolds. Brand-new enemy types built with entirely new character models will also appear. Side quests return as well, including a questline that unlocks the ability to change the appearance of equipment while preserving its original statistics.
Beyond the expansion itself, Title Update 3.2 will introduce several technical improvements. Capcom says it has spent more than 6 months optimising performance, with the game now targeting 60 FPS in Performance Mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The update will also revise the PC system requirements.
The Dragonsplague system is also receiving further changes. Following earlier adjustments, the next update will strengthen the condition’s combat benefits by giving afflicted Pawns new battle behaviours while introducing a new curative item, allowing players to decide whether to keep the infection for its advantages or remove it.
Capcom is also expanding the save system in response to player feedback. Autosave, Interim Save and Last Inn Rest Save will replace the previous two-save structure, while players will be able to maintain 3 separate playthroughs, each with its own Arisen and Main Pawn.
Before wrapping up, the developers thanked the community for its continued support, revealing that player enthusiasm helped drive the creation of the expansion. They also confirmed that, in addition to the new region of Norgan, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will add 12 new dungeons to the existing world.
