Elden Ring May Be Getting Ray Tracing Update Soon

Bandai Namco and From Software’s Elden Ring may soon be receiving a brand new update to enable ray tracing support.

Based on recent activity on the game’s Steam Database, dataminer Sekirodubi believes that Elden Ring will soon receive an update that will enable ray tracing support.

The dataminer discussed that, with every recent patch, ray tracing related files and data are being added to Elden Ring. However, there is no way of knowing for sure what the changes made to the Steam Database branch are. Given that the feature was promised by developer From Software, a ray tracing update should indeed be released for Elden Ring at some point. Whether that happens with the game’s first expansion, titled Shadow of the Erdtree, or earlier is anyone’s guess.

Elden Ring is a 2022 action role-playing game developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is From Software’s most critically acclaimed title to date, claiming the highest number of Game of the Year awards in the year. Based on a tally tracked by a Reset Era member, Elden Ring beat God of War Ragnarok in the Game of the Year 2022 standings.

The game was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with worldbuilding provided by fantasy writer George R. R. Martin. It was released on February 25 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Players create and assume control of their avatar, as they travel to fix the titular Elden Ring and take over as the new Elden Lord.

Elden Ring is presented through a third person perspective, with players freely roaming its interactive open world. The player character’s mount Torrent is used to travel between the game’s six major areas, and linear hidden dungeons can be explored to find useful items. Many different kinds of weapons and magic spells can be used in combat.
