Elden Ring has proven to be incredibly popular in Japan debuting to record-breaking numbers and claiming the best launch for From Software.
From Software usually publishes its own games in Japan while other publishers do it in the rest of the world. They have published all of the Souls games in Japan including Demon’s Souls. The same is true for Elden Ring which was published by From Software in Japan while Bandai Namco handled it for the rest of the world.
Famitsu has shared the weekly sales data for Elden Ring launch week and the game is the best-selling release overall with a comfortable margin. While the sales of physical games are shrinking in Japan, it actually had a great debut taking into account the fact that this counts just the physical release of the game and not any digital sales.
Based on the sales figure shared by Famitsu, the game has sold around 278K copies. It is debuting higher than any of the Souls games in the past. Here are the top 5 best-selling games published by From Software in Japan.
- Elden Ring (278K)
- Dark Souls II (256K)
- Dark Souls (228K)
- Dark Souls III (218K)
- Armored Core V (170K)
Bloodborne was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in Japan and it debuted to 150K sales so Elden Ring is quite a massive opening in comparison and this is despite the fact that it is a new IP.
The game is available now for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. It was developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco.
