The development of Bandai Namco and FromSoftware’s upcoming DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, is “progressing smoothly”, as per parent company Kadokawa.

In its earnings results for the 2nd Quarter Ended September 30, 2023, FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa has shared an update regarding the development of the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring. According to the company, a release window for the expansion has yet to be announced, though development is proceeding smoothly.

Additionally, it was mentioned that the domestic sales for FromSoftware’s Armored Core VI started off strong. However, global sales are expected to grow in the second half of the year, implying that the company may not be particularly pleased with the current sales figures. Kadokawa also shared its future goal of expanding the scope of FromSoftware’s own publishing, suggesting that the studio may not require a publishing agreement with Bandai Namco or another publisher in future.

It’s possible that a release date announcement for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will happen at the upcoming The Game Awards on December 7, 2023, as that is the only major remaining gaming-related event of the year. Twitter user and YouTuber Ziostorm, who is known for sharing Elden Ring related content, certainly believes so. According to them, the game’s upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC may be getting a release date announcement at this year’s The Game Awards show. Though, they did mention that their sources are unverified.

Furthermore, they stated that, based on what they’ve heard from their unverified sources, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is set for release on February 5, 2024. It certainly seems plausible for the expansion to receive a release date announcement at The Game Awards, especially since the story trailer for Elden Ring was previously presented at the show back in 2021. Only time will tell whether that is indeed the case, however.
