ZeniMax Online Studios has updated the Elder Scrolls Online roadmap, confirming that several major features originally planned for 2026 have been delayed until 2027 as the studio shifts its focus toward delivering higher-quality updates.
In a community message, ESO Game Director Nick Giacomini said recent organisational changes and staff departures have led the studio to revise its development plans. He stressed that The Elder Scrolls Online remains a long-term priority and confirmed he will now lead the studio alongside longtime ZeniMax Online Studios veteran Josh Henderson.
According to Giacomini, the development team has adopted a “quality over calendar dates” approach, choosing to delay complex features rather than rush them to meet previously announced release windows.
Among the biggest changes is the delay of Crimson Veldt, the game’s next Trial, which has been pushed into 2027. The activity will introduce mounted combat, but the studio said it needs more development time to ensure the feature meets expectations.
Update 52 has also been postponed to January 2027. The update is expected to include the new Jerall Pass PvP zone and Skyrim’s Dynamic Encounters: Rimegales. Meanwhile, the planned Class and Combat Refresh has also been moved to 2027, although the team is considering interim improvements for classes still waiting for their full update.
Despite the delays, ZeniMax said the remainder of the 2026 roadmap is largely unchanged.
Update 51 will now launch one week later than planned on September 28. It will introduce the Nowhere Vault challenge, the new Rumors gameplay system and a range of quality-of-life improvements, including achievement pinning, a customisable HUD for keyboard users, Antiquities enhancements, Hybridisation changes, Transmute Stations in Cyrodiil and several interface improvements.
The studio also outlined additional events for Season One. The new Sheogorath story quests and Golden Pursuit are already available, while Whitestrake’s Mayhem will run from August 5 to August 12. A new Golden Pursuit campaign, “Straight to the Crate”, will take place between August 20 and September 17, offering players the chance to earn up to 20 free Crown Crates. The High Seas of Tamriel event follows from September 30 to October 14, while three-sided Battlegrounds will permanently return with Update 51.
Season Two is still scheduled to begin on October 21, 2026. The update will add solo versions of Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices, with the existing group versions becoming free for all players on October 12. ZeniMax also confirmed that the Greymoor Chapter and Markarth DLC will become free on November 9, accompanied by another Golden Pursuit event centred on Skyrim and the Antiquities system.
Additional Season Two content includes further improvements to the Tamriel Tome, Frost Atronach crate rewards in the Gold Coast Bazaar, and the return of both the Witches Festival and New Life Festival later in the year.
Looking beyond the revised roadmap, Giacomini said the studio is already planning new experiences for 2027 and beyond, including content set in Skyrim that has not previously appeared in The Elder Scrolls Online. He added that more details will be shared in the coming months.
