Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027. The announcement was made during the September 9 Nintendo Direct, marking the return of the Far Cry franchise to Nintendo hardware with two of its most recognizable entries.
Far Cry 3 Nintendo Switch 2 players will be able to revisit the open-world shooter as Jason Brody, a tourist stranded on a dangerous tropical island controlled by pirates. The game follows Jason’s attempt to survive and escape while confronting Vaas and his forces throughout the island.
The open-world campaign gives players several ways to approach its encounters. Alongside first-person gunfights, Jason can use stealth, hunt animals, gather resources, craft equipment and liberate enemy outposts. Exploration is also a major part of the experience, with the island offering a mixture of combat, discovery and story-driven encounters.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition will arrive alongside the main game as a standalone experience. Rather than continuing Far Cry 3’s grounded tropical setting, Blood Dragon takes the series into a neon-filled, retro-futuristic world heavily inspired by 1980s science fiction and action movies.
Players take control of Rex “Power” Colt, a cyber-commando sent into a future filled with cyborg enemies, mutant creatures and the titular Blood Dragons. The game uses the Far Cry formula as the foundation for a more exaggerated action experience, with its setting and presentation built around the era’s VHS-style science fiction aesthetic.
Both releases are being brought to Nintendo Switch 2 as Classic Edition versions. Ubisoft has not provided further details about the Switch 2 versions, including technical specifications, resolution, performance targets or whether any platform-specific features will be included.
The announcement gives Nintendo Switch 2 owners two separate Far Cry experiences to look forward to in Spring 2027. Far Cry 3 offers a large open-world campaign centered on survival and exploration, while Blood Dragon provides a shorter, standalone adventure built around its retro-futuristic setting and exaggerated action.
