Final Fantasy VII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi says the final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is approaching completion, adding that he is now confident in the game’s overall quality.

Speaking in an interview with YouTuber Ashif’s Release Notes, as shared by Genki JPN, Hamaguchi reflected on the game’s development following its reveal at Summer Game Fest.

“Having been able to announce FF7 Revelation at SGF, I hope that people out there can look at it and think this looks like it will be pretty good.

“As we are now approaching the end, it’s nearing completion. I personally can pick it up and play it and think, yeah this feels good, this is satisfying. So I am quite confident in it.

“Of course the final judgement is in the hands of the players… but I feel confident. I can see the end. So my honest state at the moment is that I can finally feel that pressure lifting.”

Hamaguchi also addressed fan speculation surrounding how the trilogy’s ending will connect to the wider Final Fantasy VII universe. Rather than focusing solely on Advent Children, he said the team’s goal has been to incorporate elements from across the entire compilation of Final Fantasy VII titles.

“I see a great deal of that discussion. I’ve seen a lot of people discussing and speculating off the back of interviews with myself and with Kitase-san, ‘is the ending of this going to connect to Advent Children?'”

“But it’s not a question. I don’t want to sit here and say it connects to this, it connects to that. But obviously, there are a lot of other titles within the VII universe. So we’re talking about Advent Children, we’re talking about Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core. And we want to bring all of those in and make sure we’re not leaving those out.”

“And then on top of that, once we have all of those in place, we’re looking towards the ending. And then the question is, what kind of ending are we going to head for in Revelation that still has those ties? And I think that’s something that I really hope players will look forward to finding out.”

Hamaguchi also spoke about bringing a mainline Final Fantasy title back to Nintendo platforms for the first time in nearly three decades, calling the milestone personally meaningful.

“When I was a child and I was a fan of Final Fantasy VII, of course, that was exactly the point in time where, what was then Square, was shifting the Final Fantasy series over from Nintendo to the PlayStation platform. So I watched it in real time.”

“And then, obviously, at the time, Kitase-san and Nomura-san they made the decision to do so, for the reasons at the time. And I do feel like, for me to be able to bring it back to Nintendo platforms is quite meaningful.”

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC as the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
