Twitter/X user SlLENTPRINCESS has shared a picture from the set of The Legend of Zelda movie, showing what appears to be an early look at a Hylian Retriever. According to the post, the dog was recently cast for a role in the upcoming film.

The Hylian Retriever are a breed of dog found around stables and settlements across Hyrule in both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. They eat different kinds of Materials placed nearby, including meat, fruits, and vegetables. They are more active compared to other domesticated animals, often running around, chasing their tails, rolling over, crouching playfully, or shaking off water after getting wet during rainfall. Additionally, they are valued for their loyalty, intelligence, and obedient nature. These qualities also make them effective at helping guard livestock..
When Link stands near a Hylian Retriever or gives it food, the dog becomes visibly pleased, shown by a pink blush-like effect around its head. In this cheerful state, the Retriever will begin following Link around the surrounding Stable or settlement. If Link continues feeding the dog three times while it remains happy, the Retriever may guide him to a hidden treasure chest buried nearby.
Earlier today, Nintendo announced that it has moved up the release date for The Legend of Zelda movie. The film will now arrive in theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027, one week earlier than its previously scheduled May 7, 2027, release. The announcement was shared by Shigeru Miyamoto via the company’s official social media account. “This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7,” he said. He added that “the team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible” and thanked fans for their patience ahead of release.
