A major games retailer has warned that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console supplies may fall short of demand during the holiday season as Grand Theft Auto VI approaches its launch.
Speaking to The Game Business, a senior games buyer, who was not authorised to speak publicly on behalf of their employer, said retailers have been informed that hardware availability could be limited in the lead-up to Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated release.
“We’ve been informed that because of the on-going issues around hardware component availability, we won’t be getting the units we want ahead of GTA,” the buyer said.
The retailer added, “Demand will likely outstrip supply during the year end period.”
According to the report, game retailers are expecting a significant increase in demand for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19.
Rockstar Games recently opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI and confirmed the game’s pricing. The Standard Edition is priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition will retail for $99.99.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Set in the fictional state of Leonida, the game follows protagonists Jason and Lucia in a single-player story centred on Vice City and its surrounding regions.
