God of War: Sons of Sparta Is Reportedly Coming to PS4, According to PlayStation Database Tracker

God of War: Sons of Sparta could be coming to PlayStation 4, according to PlayStation database tracker PlayStation Size. The account shared the information on its X page, suggesting that the retro action-platformer may be getting a last-generation console release after launching exclusively on PS5 earlier this year.

Developed by Mega Cat Studios in collaboration with SIE Santa Monica Studio, God of War: Sons of Sparta launched on PlayStation 5 on February 12, 2026. Unlike the mainline games, it takes the form of a 2D action-platformer with Metroidvania elements, featuring pixel-art visuals, side-scrolling combat, and exploration.

The game serves as the earliest prequel in the God of War timeline, following a young Kratos and his brother Deimos during their training in the Spartan Agoge. Its story explores Kratos’s life before he became a god, focusing on his early experiences as a Spartan warrior.

Sons of Sparta marks a considerable departure from the direction established by 2018’s God of War, which moved the franchise away from its Greek mythology roots and traditional hack-and-slash gameplay. That game introduced an older Kratos living in the world of Norse mythology, accompanied by his son Atreus.

The story continued in 2022’s God of War Ragnarök, which concluded the Norse saga. A free roguelite expansion, Valhalla, arrived in 2023 and explored Kratos’s struggle with his past while embracing his new role as a god of hope.

For now, the potential PS4 release remains unconfirmed, with neither Sony nor the developers announcing plans to bring God of War: Sons of Sparta to the platform.
