During a recent interview with Twitter/X user andersonburak (via videotech), Robert Bogue, the actor who played GTA V villain Steve Haines, was asked whether he’ll also have a role to play in the upcoming GTA VI. In response, he revealed that he auditioned for more than 60 roles, ranging from major to smaller roles, but Rockstar Games didn’t reach out to him with any feedback or a response.
Bogue mentioned that he read for “over 60 different roles,” adding that the auditions covered “everything from leads to day players.” Despite the sheer number of opportunities, none of them resulted in a callback or an offer. He also said that Rockstar Games never provided any explanation for the outcome. “I never heard anything,” Bogue recalled, suggesting the studio simply moved on without offering feedback on any of his auditions.
The actor took every chance in an effort to be involved with the project, but things didn’t go his way. He expressed his disappointment and resentment, saying, “It feels like falling in love with someone, only for them to suddenly leave you. The only things I know about the game are small details I picked up from the script excerpts I read during the auditions.“
After the interview got attention, Bogue told andersonburak that he was sorry for throwing Rockstar Games under the bus publicly about how many auditions he had, “but the truth is the truth.”
Although Rockstar Games is known for reusing actors across different entries in the Grand Theft Auto series, the developer is equally secretive about its casting process. The company rarely reveals or discusses actors who were considered for specific roles. With GTA VI scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the developer has confirmed the game’s protagonists Jason and Lucia, though other characters remain under wraps.
