Halloween: The Game will not be released in Australia or New Zealand after the Australian Classification Board denied the upcoming survival horror title a rating.
The game’s official account confirmed the decision, stating that the classification denial was not related to Michael Myers or the game’s violent kill animations. Instead, the board’s decision was attributed to the presence of a controlled substance in the game.
“Despite every effort on our part, the Australian Classifications Board has denied “Halloween: The Game” a rating. The denial was not based on the presence of the iconic slasher, Michael Myers, or the outstanding kills that can be performed in the game, but rather the presence of a controlled substance. Unfortunately, to our disappointment (and certainly yours) this means that we cannot sell the physical or digital product in both Australia and New Zealand,” the game’s official account said.
The decision means players in both territories will be unable to purchase either the physical or digital versions of Halloween: The Game.
Developed and published by IllFonic with Gun Interactive serving as co-publisher, Halloween: The Game is based on John Carpenter’s 1978 horror film. It is currently scheduled to launch on September 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
