Hideaki Kamiya may have hinted at a possible return to the Devil May Cry series after responding to a fan question about the original game on social media.
Kamiya, who directed the first Devil May Cry in 2001, was asked about the mysterious dragon that appears during the battle against Mundus. The fan questioned whether the dragon was connected to Vergil’s ability to create swords from his aura or whether it was some kind of familiar.
In response, Kamiya wrote, “It will become clear when I make the DMC series again…” The comment has prompted speculation that the Devil May Cry creator could potentially return to the franchise in some capacity, although it does not confirm that he is currently working on a new project.
The original Devil May Cry was directed by Kamiya after the project evolved from an early Resident Evil 4 prototype. The game established the fast-paced combat style that would become central to the series, with Dante later becoming one of Capcom’s most recognisable characters.
Talk of a possible Devil May Cry 1 remake has also circulated in recent years, but there has been no official confirmation of a remake directed or developed by Kamiya. His latest comment therefore remains an intriguing hint rather than evidence of an announced project.
