Hulk and Black Panther Join Marvel Tokon Roster

by Greg Martin

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls continues to expand its roster, with Hulk and Black Panther officially confirmed as playable characters. The announcement was made during EVO Japan 2026, where developer Arc System Works also unveiled a new Avengers team, an additional stage set in Wakanda, and a looming antagonist who will shape the game’s central conflict.

The newly introduced team, known as the Fighting Avengers, brings together Captain America and Iron Man alongside Hulk and Black Panther. Led by Captain America, this lineup is positioned as a central force in the game’s story-driven Episode Mode, where they face a growing threat to Earth. The reveal was accompanied by a new trailer showcasing the team in action and hinting at their role in the unfolding narrative.

Alongside the character reveals, Arc System Works confirmed Wakanda as a new playable stage. The technologically advanced African nation, now ruled by Shuri as Black Panther, serves as both a visual showcase and a narrative backdrop. The setting blends natural environments with cutting-edge design, reflecting Wakanda’s dual identity as both a cultural stronghold and a scientific powerhouse.

Hulk enters the roster with a design and moveset centered on raw strength and escalating power. In this version of the story, his unstable nature has led to exile in the Savage Land, where he lives apart from former allies. Gameplay-wise, Hulk builds a Gamma Gauge through combat, eventually triggering a heightened state that significantly boosts his capabilities. His fighting style emphasizes overwhelming force, allowing him to dominate opponents across various ranges.

Black Panther, portrayed as Shuri in this iteration, brings a contrasting approach focused on speed and precision. As both ruler and protector of Wakanda, her character reflects a balance between leadership and combat skill. In battle, she relies on agility and reach, using the Spear of Bashenga alongside a mobility ability that enables rapid directional movement. This system allows for fluid combinations and adaptable offensive strategies, particularly in mid-range engagements.

The latest reveal also introduced a new antagonist known as Champion, a cosmic entity driven by a desire for combat. As one of the Elders of the Universe, he travels between worlds seeking worthy challengers, with failure resulting in planetary destruction. Earth has now become his next target, leading to the creation of a tournament called the Challenge of the Champion. Teams of four, including the Fighting Avengers, will compete for the chance to confront him, though the true nature of the competition remains unclear.

Looking ahead, the latest playable build of Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls will be showcased at Combo Breaker 2026 starting May 22 in Chicago and Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 beginning May 29. The updated demo will feature 13 playable characters and 5 stages, including the newly revealed additions. With development entering its final phase, Arc System Works has indicated that more updates will be shared in the near future.
