Nintendo has revealed the first look at the logo for The Legend of Zelda live-action movie during the franchise’s 40th Anniversary Direct. The film does not currently have a subtitle, with Shigeru Miyamoto suggesting there is a reason for that which will become clear when audiences watch the movie.
Miyamoto also confirmed that the movie is not based on any specific game in The Legend of Zelda series. This suggests the upcoming film will tell an original story while drawing from the broader world and mythology established by Nintendo’s long-running action-adventure franchise.
The live-action adaptation is being developed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures, with Wes Ball, director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, attached to direct. Miyamoto is co-producing the project alongside Avi Arad.
The film is part of Nintendo’s plans to expand The Legend of Zelda beyond its video game roots. The franchise, which debuted in 1986, has become one of Nintendo’s most established properties, with games including Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
