The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo revealed the release date alongside a first detailed look at the remake during its The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct.
The Switch 2 version rebuilds the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic with updated visuals and several gameplay changes while retaining the original adventure. Link can now jump, sprint using a new dash ability, and swim and dive underwater.
The remake also introduces a quicker item-swapping system that allows players to change equipment with a single button. Cutscenes will feature fully voiced characters, while load screens remain in the game as part of an effort to preserve an element of the original experience.
New Features And Changes
A new feature called Threads of Time will help players track their progress and identify their next objective. Time of day will also progress throughout Hyrule, adding a dynamic day and night cycle across the game world.
Hyrule Castle Town has been expanded with new areas that were previously inaccessible. Players can also hear gossip and take part in minigames while exploring the updated town.
The remake will also support an Ocarina accessory that can be used to play melodies in the game. The feature is intended to retain one of the defining gameplay mechanics from the original while adapting it for the new release.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time originally launched in 1998 and became one of Nintendo’s most influential 3D games. The Switch 2 remake is being positioned as a modern version of the classic, combining its original story and world with expanded movement, exploration and presentation features.
Nintendo’s September 2026 Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct provided the dedicated showcase for the remake, with the company also using the presentation to highlight other initiatives surrounding the franchise’s 40th anniversary.
