Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Transports the Series to an Exceptionally Cool Location
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth was just announced during Microsoft’s Xbox Game Showcase, and the trailer shown appears to hint at a major new location.
The Like A Dragon series has traditionally been set in fictional Japanese cities inspired by real-life locations. However, with Infinite Wealth, the game’s producers are exploring a completely new setting. If we go by the announcement trailer, Kasuga Ichiban appears to wake up washed up on a beach, completely naked. It has been heavily speculated that this location is set in America.
It was already confirmed that the game will feature two playable protagonists, Kasuga Ichiban, and Kazuma Kiryu. Ichiban was one of the protagonists for Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which started a new branch in the franchise by shifting focus to turn-based gameplay. It was also the first game to remove Kiryu as the main protagonist and instead introduce a completely new one.
In Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Sega is attempting to add complexity by allowing multiple playable characters. They are also testing new waters by setting the game in a location like America. While the details around the story are unknown for now, we can see in the initial trailer that the game might offer its traditional humor and mix in some mystery.
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is not the only game in the series that is coming soon. Sega is also working on Like A Dragon Gaiden, which stars Kazuma Kiryu in the lead role. It is a spin-off game that is coming later this year.
All of the Like A Dragon games that have been shown or announced so far are confirmed to arrive on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. The game is being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It will be released in early 2024.
