Liquid Swords, the Swedish studio behind Samson: A Tyndalston Story, has filed for bankruptcy after reportedly going several months without paying employee salaries. According to Swedish outlet Breakit, around 30 employees are affected, with the Swedish state set to compensate them through its wage guarantee system.
The bankruptcy proceedings began on October 12, 2026, following a decision by the Stockholm District Court. Despite the financial difficulties, the bankruptcy trustee reportedly remains hopeful of finding a buyer for the company’s operations or intellectual property.
Founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg, the former Avalanche Studios co-founder known for creating the Just Cause series, Liquid Swords had spent years developing its debut game. Samson: A Tyndalston Story launched for PC in April 2026 as an open-world, narrative-driven action game built using Unreal Engine 5.
The studio had already undergone significant restructuring in 2025, when it reportedly laid off around half its workforce, approximately 45 employees, amid financial difficulties and wider challenges facing the games industry.
Liquid Swords was based in Nacka, in Stockholm County, and had previously received investment from NetEase. Its most recently available financial statements reportedly showed revenue of approximately 106 million Swedish kronor and losses of nearly 39 million kronor.
The bankruptcy trustee is still seeking a potential buyer for the company or its intellectual property, according to Breakit.
