LittleBigPlanet & Dreams Creator’s Next Game Is Based On A New IP

The next game from Media Molecule, creator of LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, is based on a brand new IP, as per the latest information.

According to a new job listing for the position of Principal Programmer, Art Technology at Media Molecule, the LittleBigPlanet and Dreams developer is working on a game based on a brand new IP. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as the studio has not worked on a title featuring Sackboy since LittleBigPlanet 2, and Dreams is more of a tool for creators that didn’t seem like it would develop into a franchise.

In the job description, Media Molecule states that it is a fantastic time to join the development team as it embarks on its next adventure, defining and executing the vision for its next project and settling into its newly refurbished studio in central Guildford, UK. The team is looking for a talented Principal Programmer, Art Technology, to help form and lead the Art Technology team on the new project. The new recruit will partner closely with the wider programming team to define and champion technical requirements and standards for Media Molecule’s new IP.

Media Molecule’s previous title, Dreams, a game creation tool published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in February, 2020. It allows players to create and play user-generated content such as games, audiovisual experiences, and game assets, which can be shared or modified for use in others’ creations. Media Molecule also developed several games within Dreams, including Art’s Dream, Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale, A Long Climb Ago, various virtual reality mini-games, and Tren.

On April 11, 2023, Media Molecule announced on its website that it would cease live service support for Dreams in September, 2023, to focus on its new project, which we now know is based on a new IP. However, online server support for Dreams continues for now, along with bug fixing, in-game curation, official streams, and community engagement and promotion.
