A comparison between Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP and the 2012 original reveals that the new version is a worthy remaster, but not a full blown remake.
For those wondering what kind of improvements can be expected in Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the comparison below explores the graphics enhancements, gameplay improvements, audio upgrades, and overall experience over the beloved 2012 classic.
As seen in the video above, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP features improved texture work, improved shadows, more detailed character models and environments, depth of field and other post-process effects. It’s clear that this is more of a refinement of the original work rather than a complete rework. As such, fans of the original can expect much of the original experience to be preserved, though with some worthwhile audiovisual enhancements and gameplay refinements.
Previously, Yoshimi Yasuda, Game Designer at Dragami Games, took to Twitter/X to reveal that Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will retain the English voice cast from the original game. The main character was originally voiced by Tara Strong in English and by both Eri Kitamura in the PlayStation 3 version and Yoko Hikasa in the Xbox version in Japanese. Yasuda’s announcement implies that Strong will reprise her role in the remake as the protagonist, Juliet Starling.
The game designer had also mentioned that the combat system will be improved to be more enjoyable for fans of modern action games. According to him, the remaster will feature speed adjustments in order to eliminate the sluggish feel of chainsaw battles and will also include improvements to input response timing for cheerleading and chainsaw combo attacks as well as improvements to camera movement.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be available on September 25, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC. The original was developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and released over a decade ago on June 12, 2024, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
