Mafia: Definitive Edition has reportedly received an ESRB rating for PS5 and Xbox Series, potentially indicating that a native current generation version of the 2020 remake could be in development.
The ESRB listing names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series as platforms and gives the game an M for Mature 17+ rating. The rating cites Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Sexual Themes and Strong Language, while also listing In-Game Purchases.
The listing describes the same crime-focused content found in Mafia: Definitive Edition, including gunfights, melee combat, assassinations, robberies and other missions involving Tommy Angelo and his rise through a Prohibition-era crime family.
Native PS5 And Xbox Series Versions Could Be Coming
Mafia: Definitive Edition was originally released on September 25, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The remake was developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, rebuilding the original 2002 Mafia from the ground up.
The game is currently playable on newer consoles through backwards compatibility, but the ESRB listing specifically identifying PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series has raised speculation about dedicated versions for the current generation.
2K and Hangar 13 have not officially announced native current generation versions of Mafia: Definitive Edition at this time
