Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Update 4.0.0 Adds Switch 2 Support

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update 4.0.0 is now available, adding Nintendo Switch 2 support with clearer visuals, shorter loading times, expanded multiplayer, and CameraPlay functionality.

The update also makes several general gameplay changes, including increased player speed during races and a change to how Boo affects movement off-road. Players with the Booster Course Pass also receive a new 96 Races option for VS Race settings.

Nintendo Switch 2 Support

  • Added support for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs, resulting in clearer visuals.
  • Shortened loading times before races and battles begin.
  • Added support for 5 to 8 players in Multiplayer.
    • Up to seven Nintendo Switch controllers, including Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers, can be connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
    • Playing with eight people requires at least one Joy-Con 2 controller or Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
  • Added CameraPlay support.
    • A USB camera, sold separately, is required to use CameraPlay.
    • Players can turn the camera on or off in Multiplayer modes with 2 to 4 players and in Online Play.
    • Using a camera over the internet requires participation in a GameChat session.
    • Camera footage and microphone audio are sent only to GameChat members.
    • When the camera is enabled, the player’s face is displayed during the race.

General

  • Increased player speed during races by the equivalent of one coin.
  • Players will no longer slow down while using Boo to become invisible, including when entering an off-road area.
  • Added a 96 Races option to VS Race rule settings for players with access to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass.
