The campaign calls on EA to provide the funding, staffing and development time necessary for developer BioWare to continue working on new entries in the Mass Effect series. Alternatively, it asks the publisher to consider licensing the Mass Effect IP to another studio capable of carrying the franchise forward. Petition supporters argue that either option could preserve the series while allowing its universe to expand with new stories and experiences. As of writing, the #SaveMassEffect petition has amassed more than 105,000 signatures.

In his recent video, content creator Dantics revealed that he was part of the Mass Effect Council, providing feedback to BioWare on Mass Effect 5 during development. According to him, the game, titled Mass Effect Universe, was set more than 600 years after the Reaper War, with players controlling a customizable N7 agent equipped with experimental technology that enabled hacking, environmental manipulation, and stealth tactics.

Instead of another galaxy-threatening invasion, the story involved three competing galactic powers i.e. an alliance comprising humanity/the Krogan/the Batarians, the Council races, and the Geth. Their uneasy balance was threatened by a mysterious adversary operating behind the scenes. Meanwhile, Geth-built megastructures were to connect the Milky Way to Andromeda, expanding the franchise’s narrative possibilities. Gameplay reportedly combined handcrafted missions reminiscent of the original trilogy with the freedom of the Hitman games, allowing players to investigate, manipulate their surroundings, or launch direct assaults.
