Minecraft Live’s September 2026 broadcast revealed a new dimension coming to Minecraft, a new frozen cave biome, Minecraft Dungeons II, and several other additions planned for the game and its wider ecosystem.
One of the biggest announcements was the Sift, a new dimension first introduced in Minecraft Dungeons II. The Sift will also be added to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition next year, becoming the fourth dimension alongside the Overworld, Nether and End. Players can already explore the Sift in Dungeons II when the game launches on September 29, 2026.
Minecraft Dungeons II will also move away from the original game’s level-based mission structure. The sequel features an interconnected world filled with rifts that can transport players into the Sift, alongside new areas including the Meadow and Carapace. The game’s story centres on an ecosystem that has fallen out of balance, with hostile illagers forming an Illager High Council.
Mojang also provided an early look at the next Minecraft game drop, which will introduce underground ice caves. The new biome features frozen environments containing calcite, naturally growing icicles and glowing ice crystals. A new frozen zombie variant will also inhabit the caves, capable of applying a freezing effect when attacking and, in some cases, throwing ice balls at players.
The broadcast also announced that sound effects packs will be coming to the Minecraft Marketplace, giving players another way to customise their in-game experience. Mojang did not provide a release date for the packs.
Outside the main game, Minecraft World is set to open at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London in 2027. The attraction will include the first Minecraft World Hotel, themed rooms and dining areas, alongside Escape the Nether, described as the world’s first Minecraft rollercoaster.
Minecraft Live also highlighted Mojang’s plans for a broader creator platform designed to make it easier for players to create, manage and share their own Minecraft content. The broadcast additionally confirmed that Minecraft will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, while Minecraft Education is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
