Monolith Soft Confirmed as Co-Developer of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has confirmed that Monolith Soft worked on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. The studio contributed to several areas of development, including game design, programming, and graphics.

According to the studio’s official announcement, Monolith Soft provided partial contract development support rather than serving as the game’s primary developer. The remake was led internally by Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 3, the team responsible for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Monolith Soft’s involvement in the Ocarina of Time remake adds another Nintendo project to the studio’s development credits. The company worked alongside 1-Up Studio, which also provided production support.

HokWai Ng served as the remake’s director, while Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi were credited as producers. The project marked a return to the traditional, more linear Zelda structure following the development team’s work on the open-world designs of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Developed from the ground up to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake retains the original 1998 game’s story and Hyrule layout while introducing substantial changes to its presentation and controls.

The updated version features redesigned visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, improved traversal mechanics, and refinements to combat. Nintendo has also preserved the original game’s dungeon-focused progression rather than adopting the open-world approach of more recent entries.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
