Monster Hunter Rise is a 2021 action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom. The Monster Hunter series’ sixth mainline episode saw release in March 2021 for the Nintendo Switch and in January 2022 for Windows. In June 2022, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, an expansion pack, was released. The Sunbreak expansion was released later in the year, with ports for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S scheduled for release on January 20, 2023.
While adding new elements and mechanics, Rise maintains many of the new conventions established in Monster Hunter: World. These include the use of Wirebugs to travel the world and mount and ride specific monsters, as well as a new animal companion called a Palamute that can be used to ride across the map or into battle. Upon its release, the game received largely favorable reviews, with critics praising the gameplay and its expansion of the mechanics first introduced in World. Since its release, more than 11 million copies of Monster Hunter Rise have been sold worldwide, making it the second most popular game in the franchise.
